Bronwen Saunders grew up in Great Britain and studied English Literature at Sheffield University (B.A. Hons., First Class) and at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles (M.A.). On returning to Europe in 1986 she was employed first as an English teacher and then as a translator for a translation agency in northern Bavaria, before going freelance in 1992. From late 1999 to mid-2002 she was tasked with the translation of articles on politics, arts and culture for the English-language edition of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung on an almost daily basis. When that project came to an end, she began to specialize in the translation of art books and exhibition catalogues, and for several years now has collaborated closely with publishers, museums, artists, and art historians all over Germany and Switzerland, and even further afield. After 27 years in Germany, she relocated to Basel in April 2013.
